A Pair of Louis XIV Style Gilt
Carved Wood Frames,
probably 19th Century,

on the back with labels from an earlier
painting, marked `5-272-2581 Coypel
Nymph pursued by Pan' and another
`122 and 122b A Pair of Noel Coypel
1628-170 A Nymph Pursued by Pan,
Mr. Charles …delmeyer, Paris, Size,
Irregular, Height 27in. 272[sic].

The American Art Directory, Volume 6,
by the American Federation of Arts,
lists the sale of the paintings referred
to on the labels as "Coypel, Noel
Nicholas (1692-1734) French, Fischhof
1907, 122 A Nymph Pursued by Pan,
122a Venus and Vulcan".  The auction
took place at the Waldorf Astoria on
Feb 23 1907, and each painting with
frame fetched $650. It seems that
when the paintings were in possession
of Charles Sedelymeyer of Paris they
were attributed to the wrong Noel
Coypel the Elder (1629-1707).
